Question 4: Who would be the audience for your media product?

Our target audience was one of the most important decisions to make when initially coming up with our idea. In our research, we found out that the most frequent cinema-goers were within the 16-24 age bracket. The following diagram, taken from the BFI Statistical Yearbook 2012 (with figures from 2011) visualizes the proportion of 16-24 year olds going to the cinema over the years. The figure currently stands at 31%.

With that decision being made, we went on to decide that females of this category age would become our core audience. We felt that we could target this audience the most effectively (our group being part of this segment ourselves) giving our film maximum potential to get as wide a reach as possible. Our exact reasoning is explained in the below diagram:

We also decided on two secondary audiences to widen our reach even further. Followed are two fictional characters who we would imagine would enjoy our film:

We believe that our film has the potential to target a broad spectrum of ages. Beneficially, these ages happen to be those that visit the cinema the most, giving us confidence that with the right marketing our film would be successful.
