Group Meeting 1 - Research and Planning

First of all we established everything we had. This included locations, technology, actors and limitations.

  • Writing a list of actors, we realised that the actors that we know and consider reliable are all teenagers. For this reason, we decided that it would be best to target an audience of a similar age, and so we chose the most frequent group of cinema goers; the 16-24 year olds.
  • We decided that we would like to predominantly shoot our film opening inside, because it enabled us to have greater control of lighting given that we did not have the equipment to light an outside scene in a way that looked as professional. Shooting inside also means that we will be less affected by the weather. The inside locations that we have available are the 4 of our houses.
  • More limitations that we established were the budget, which meant that are locations could not be hired, and we needed to be able to transport all equipment technology cast and crew there easily. We realised that it is difficult to get and direct a very large group of people.

We then went on to discuss genres, which needed to be appropriate for our core audience of 16-24 year olds. We ruled out action and gory horror due to lack of technology, and slapstick comedy because we did not feel this worked to the strengths of our group. We decided that a drama could be a good idea because this could be done with all the limitations we had.

We briefly discussed the idea of a party scene in which someone takes an overdose, but did not have time to further develop this idea. This would fit to the drama genre.
