Target Audience - Stage 1

Our primary audience is females from the ages 15-24. They will be drawn to the strong female male character and will be inspired by the changes she makes in the film. They would typically watch comedy, black comedy, high-school dramas and indie films - and as our film will contain elements of all four, this target audience will find it appealing. They will be primarily middle class students and teenagers who enjoy going out partying and socializing with friends more than staying at home studying.  A regular visitor to the cinema. Will be able to identify with the themes of recklessness we hope to put across in our film opening.

We also have two secondary audiences, one being the males of the same age group, class and interests. They will be attracted to the daring and femme-fatale like main character, in the same way that she will be inspiring for our primary target audience. They may also like the black comedy aspect, and will be able to also relate to the themes we portray in our film.

Our other secondary audience is the parents of teenagers attracted to the film for nostalgia of reliving their childhood through the cinema screen. They may also be looking for clues as to what their children will get up to. This may generate word of mouth advertising for the shock factor, as our film shows drug taking and high school dramas getting out of control in a way that is light-hearted and funny. This is exactly what our film needs on a low budget. A film that has benefited from this sort of awareness in the past is 'Thirteen', which gathered much controversy for its content, which helped it to success.

We chose this age as 'BFI's Statistical Yearbook 2012' reports that 31% of the cinema goers in 2011 were between the ages of 16-24. The following table is also referenced from there.

This age group also show preference to comedies, and these are shown highlighted in green in the table above. This gives us confidence that we will have an audience base of which our film appeals to. As you can see, 'Twilight Breaking Dawn: Part 1' has also made the list as a high school drama, another genre our film is conventional of.
